Description |
Two photographic prints of the Horace Mann School, Winnetka, Illinois: (1) A sepia-toned print of the Horace Mann School. Children can be seen outside the several entrances or on walks leading up to the school and a man is walking along the sidewalk in front of the building. An unpaved street can be seen in the foreground. A handwritten note on the back of the print states that it was taken by John T. Pike abut 1896. Another handwritten note states that the architect was William Otis. Also included with the print are two 8" x 10" black and white enlargements of the print and the negative from which the enlargements were made. (2) A black and white photographic print of the Horace Mann School taken from the same vantage point as print (1). The landscaping around the school that is seen in print (1), however, is missing in this print and the ground in front of the school appears torn up, suggesting that this is an earlier image of the school taken at the time it was under construction. A handwritten note on the back of the print states that it was taken by John T. Pike about 1898 which would appear inconsistent with the dating provided on the note on pinrt (1). |
