Two black and white photographic prints (one a blowup of the smaller one) of the house that was moved to 510 Ash Street, Winnetka from 530 Cherry Street about 1904. The original location of the home was on the S.E. Corner of Cherry and Poplar - 530 Cherry Street. Photo reference written by Frank Windes states: "510 Ash St. Built prior to 1878 by Mr. Hand for Judge Windes. Belonged to Judge Thomas G. Windes originally on corner of Cherry and Poplar moved about 1904 to 510 Ash St. Judge Windes rode his horse to Evanston R. R. Station every morning, stabled it there and continued by train to Evanston and rode his horse back to Winnetka." A handwritten note on the back of the small print reads: "Probably - 1890s - Judge Thomas G. Windes on "Big Frank" in front of Windes house at 530 Cherry St. Family came to Winnetka in 1879. Son, Frank Windes - architect for this & many other early Winnetka houses. House still much unchanged at 530 Cherry Street. H.C.W." |
